Drew Montgomery

Drew, a native of Rancho Cordova, CA was a multi-talented athlete at Cordova High School lettering in football, basketball and baseball.  After graduating in 2000 he attended American River College for the next 2 years where he was a tight end on the football team.

Despite his GPA and an ankle injury his sophomore year, he managed to recieve a full ride scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Monticello, a small school in the Gulf South Conference.  At the time the Gulf South was the most competitive conference in the NCAA's Divison II.  There, Drew recieved looks from NFL teams such as the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks, however, ineligibilty and home sickness forced Drew back to Sacramento after only 1 season with the Boll Weevils.

Over the next 2 years Drew continued his football training on his own, tried out for multiple pro leagues through the National Combines, and worked part time as a waiter and bouncer while attending Sacramento City College. In the spring of 2005 he finally earned his AA degree in Social Science from Sac City.

With 1 year of eligibilty left Drew played his final college season at Central Washington University in the fall of 2005.  Unsatisfied with the end of his football career and still having an inner desire for competition Drew left Central immediately after the season and joined Team X by the Summer of 2006 which was located only a few blocks from where Drew grew up.

After only a few months of MMA training Drew stepped into the cage for the first time October 14, 2006 against a much bigger opponent in a Gladiator Challenge event held at Konocti Vista Casino where he came out untouched with a 12 second tko in the 1st round.  In 2007 Drew fought a total of 6 times, willing to fight on the shortest of notices regardless of who the opponent was.  Some of his more seasoned opponents that year included 2006 Super Heavyweight NAGA winner Jon Brokowske,  former boxer Richard Blake and Division I All-American wrestler Tony Rubalcava.

In the Spring of 2006, Cal Worsham sold the team to Mike Rumsey and we changed the name to Team Carnage.  In June of 2008 Rumsey scored Drew a 4-fight contract with Elite XC/Showtime.  Drew won the first fight of his contract at the Stockton Arena July 26, 2008 against big heavyweight Brandon "Bolo" Tarns on the under card of the Robbie Lawler/Scott Smith rematch.

Drew looks forward to a hopefully long, succesful career in MMA and enjoys working with younger, less experienced fighters. Recently his high school/junior college quarterback and long time friend DJ Roberson has joined the team and looks to be a fine addition.
